Some organizations require two people to sign agreements. The Bonterms Platform allows the addition of a second Signer by either party on a Deal.
When a second Signer is added, both Signers must sign before the Deal can be finalized. The order in which they sign does not matter.
When to Use a Second Signer
Use a second Signer when your organization's signing policy requires two authorized representatives to execute an agreement.
A Deal can have up to two Signers per party, and it is ok if only one of the parties has two Signers.
Where You Can Add a Second Signer
A second Signer can be added in several places:
Entity Blocks
If your organization regularly uses the same two Signers, you can configure both Signers on an Entity Block. When that Entity Block is used in a Deal Template, both Signers will be populated automatically.
Deal Templates
Deal Templates can inherit two Signers from the Entity Block. You cannot currently add a Second Signer directly to a Deal Template, or modify the signers inherited from the Entity Block.
Any Deal created from the Template will inherit both Signers by default, and either signer can be changed within the Deal.
New Deals
When creating a Deal, from the Preview Deal page you can select Add Second Signer in the Deal Team section (underneath Party Information - which will be promptly updated to reflect the new Signer)
In the Add Second Signer modal you will enter the second Signer's Signer Name, Title and Email.
Deal Team
Anytime prior to initiating signature, a second Signer can also be added or removed from the Deal Team modal, accessed at the top right of any Deal.
Recipient Workflows
Recipients can also add a second Signer - at the start of Guided Review, in the Party Information section at the botton; or when completing their Company Information prior to initiating signature, by opening the Deal Team modal and selecting Add Second Signer.
How Signing Works
- Both Signers have the same permissions and access.
- There is no signing order. Either Signer may sign first.
- If a party has two Signers, both signatures are required before the agreement can be fully executed.
Cover Page Display
When a second Signer is added, the Cover Page automatically displays two signature blocks for that party.
The first Signer appears in the upper signature block and the second Signer appears beneath it.
If a second Signer is not added, the Cover Page displays a single signature block, consistent with current behavior.
Docusign and Embedded Signing
If your organization uses an e-signature integration like Docsign, all Signers are included in the signature process and will each receive an envelope.
If Inline Signing is enabled, eligible Signers can sign directly within the Bonterms Platform, or from Docusign.
Important Notes
- A Deal may have a maximum of two Signers per party.
- Both Signers are required to sign if a second Signer is added.
- Signers may sign in any order.
- Adding a second Signer does not create an additional party to the Deal.
- Once signature has been initiated, Signers cannot be added or removed.
- If one party has two Signers, both parties are NOT required to have two. Inclusion of Second Signers is always optional.
