Deal Roles

Deal Roles define what each User can do on a specific Deal.

Unlike User Types, which control access across the Bonterms Platform, Deal Roles determine a User's responsibilities within an individual Deal.

Quick tips

  • Users can have different roles on different Deals
  • Deal Roles can be assigned in Deal Templates or updated during a Deal (in the Deal Team modal). See Add a Team Member to a Deal for more details.
  • A User may have more than one Deal Role
  • Only the Owner controls communication with the counterparty

Owner

Responsible for managing the Deal throughout the Deal Flow.

Can:

  • Create and send Deals
  • Invite Deal Team members
  • Send proposals to the counterparty
  • Move Deals between stages

See Owner Role for more details

Reviewer

Assists the Owner during Guided Review.

Can:

  • Review Terms
  • Suggest changes
  • Add comments

Cannot:

  • Send proposals to the counterparty

Reviews are optional.

See Reviewer Role for more details

Approver

Approves a Deal before it moves to Signature.

If an Approver is assigned, approval is required before the Deal can proceed.

See Approver Role for more details

Signer

Signs the completed Cover Page on behalf of a party.

If no Signer is assigned, the Signer from the Entity Block is used by default.

Owner can optionally assign a Second Signer to a deal.

See Signer Role for more details

Viewer

Provides read-only access to a Deal.

Viewers can monitor progress but cannot make changes.

See Viewer Role for more details

Assigning Deal Roles

Deal Roles can be assigned:

  • When creating a Deal Template
  • When creating a Deal
  • At any time during a Deal negotiation using Deal Team
